Finca Santa Lucia is a De La Finca family farm operated by Raul Rodriguez who is a third generation coffee farmer. Â Raul inherited this farm from his father, Don Ermenegildo Rodriquez, who was one of the biggest innovators in coffee in his time. Â Don Ermenegildo introduced the coffee world to exotic varieties Caturra, Yellow Bourbon and Typica. Â Santa Lucia is a mix of varietals Caturra, Lempira and IH90 and is processed washed.
Finca Santa Lucia is planted in Montana de la Choca, a national mountain reserve in the Tres Pines, Comayagua region of Honduras. Finca Santa Lucia is surrounded by a cloud forest full of exotic wildlife where the distinct seasons contribute to the high quality growing conditions for specialty coffee. The high altitude, richness of the soil and warmth of the sun all help ensure quality cherries are harvested.
Raul is one of the patriarchs of the De La Finca Family, our direct trade partner. Â Santa Lucia employees around 75 pickers during the harvest and 15 permanent workers that live on the farm with their families. Â Raul takes pride in paying his workers the highest salaries in the region because he believes in taking care of his employees just the same as producing high quality coffees.
